Overview

Apogee has an exciting new opportunity for a CWMD Technical Analysis and Operational Research SME to support Headquarters United States Air Force (HAF/A10). In this role, you will provide highly specialized scientific and technical analysis to translate complex CBRN data into actionable operational insights for the Department of the Air Force.

The HAF/A10 contract delivers technical, analytical, operational, programmatic, and planning subject-matter expertise to HAF/A10 and its component divisions to advance national security strategic plans, policies, concepts, and initiatives.

This is a full-time position, located on-site at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA.

***This position is contingent upon contract award.***

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an on-site programmer SME proficient in Python, C++, and Visual Basic for CWMD and nuclear-effects modeling.
  • Develop and implement models of complex systems representing chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear agent effects and attributes.
  • Model environmental and situational variables (e.g., weather, temperature, temporal degradation) and overlay effects on air operations.
  • Integrate scientific data, test results, and operational parameters into modeling code and simulations.
  • Simulate agent behavior over time, including degradation and persistence, to assess effects.
  • Assess impacts on sortie generation, timing, and flow to characterize operational risk and environment.
  • Produce analyses, visualizations, and decision‑support products for operational planning and stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and operate current and future sortie generation and hazard prediction Modeling & Simulation (M&S) products (e.g., VLSTRACK, HPAC, JEM, etc.).
  • Program new modeling and visualization tools as directed to depict complex systems, such as aircraft generation flow or chemical agent behavior.
  • Support and provide subject matter expertise for AF, Joint, or interagency T&E events. Evaluate raw scientific test results to determine operational relevance and application.
  • Conduct technical reviews of requirements documents and monitor advances in the scientific community to ensure AF guidance is accurate, relevant, and current.
  • Analyze OPLANS, Force Models, intelligence, CBRN threats, delivery means, and environmental effects to assess the operational impact on DAF missions, including aircraft sorties, logistics, equipment, and personnel.
  • Review and analyze high-level strategic documents (e.g., Defense Planning Guidance, Global Campaign Plans, OPLANs) to ensure DAF CWMD and Biodefense equities, threats, and objectives are fully integrated.
  • Analyze DAF operational needs to provide formal recommendations for CWMD, CBRND, and Biodefense requirements. Prepare analytical products and draft inputs to support government representation and advocacy in Joint, Service, and interagency acquisition and planning forums.
  • Conduct studies and analysis to identify and analyze CWMD and Biodefense operational readiness and planning gaps, informed by capabilities documents and best practices from allied, joint, and interagency partners.
  • Prepare analytical materials and briefings to support DAF engagement with DoD, non-DoD institutions, other Services, and foreign partners.
